The SSP rules from 6 April 2026

  • SSP is paid from the first full day off sick — there are no longer any waiting days.
  • There is no minimum earnings requirement — employees on any pay can get SSP.
  • The weekly rate is £123.25 or 80% of average weekly earnings, whichever is lower.
  • It's paid for each full day the employee would normally have worked, for up to 28 weeks.
  • The employee must tell you they're sick (by your deadline, or within 7 days). After 7 days you can ask for a fit note.
